EXPERT DISCUSSION ON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ISSUES TOOK PLACE
An expert discussion on the topic “The Role of Nuclear Technologies in the Development of Green Energy” was held at the Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov.
The event, aimed at implementing tasks set in the framework of the Presidential Messages to the people of Kazakhstan, was attended by the university's academic teaching staff, scientists, students and representatives of national and regional media.
Chairman of the Board and Rector of the Atyrau University named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov Idrisov Salamat Nurmukhanovich made a preface and said that certain steps are already being taken to prevent the country's energy dependence and a crisis in the energy market in the next decade. "Thanks to these factors, the renewable energy sector is developing. However, due to the instability of alternative energy sources, I do not think that they can be considered as the main source of energy. Because solar and wind power plants depend on weather conditions," said S. Idrisov.
Doctor of Physics and Meta-Mathematical Sciences, Professor Beket Kenzhegulov, who participated in the discussion, made a report on the topic of "Technological and Scientific Foundations of a Nuclear Power Plant". "From an environmental point of view, a nuclear power plant will prevent 20 million tons of waste from being emitted into the air per year. And according to economists, if the consumption of nuclear energy increases by 1%, the gross domestic product will increase by 0.32. In turn, the public is concerned about whether the nuclear power plant will harm the water of the Balkhash basin if it is built on the territory of the village of Ulken in the Almaty region. I will give an example. A 2400 MW nuclear power plant was built in Belarus. There, $63 million per year is spent on cooling the nuclear power plant. It turns out that a cubic meter of water is consumed. According to scientists, this is only 0.33% of the evaporation of the Balkhash basin by a solar source per year. This means that the water reserves in Balkhash will not decrease," said B. Kenzhegulov.
Scientist and expert, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Ardak Amangosova says that nuclear power plants open up new possibilities as an alternative source of electricity. “How is a nuclear power plant useful?” We get 8% of our electricity from solar panels, 35% from wind and 90% from nuclear power plants. Although our Earth is so big, I do not approve of limiting ourselves to solar and wind energy. First of all, in order to develop agriculture, attention should be paid to eliminating erosion in oil-producing areas. Secondly, if, for example, solar panels are placed on 28,860 square meters of land, there will be a shadow under it, and the condition of flora and fauna will worsen," said the scientist and expert.
Following the discussion, the scientists who participated in the meeting exchanged ideas and expressed their opinions. The economic efficiency and energy safety of NPP construction, environmental efficiency, the need and stability in the energy sector, international experience, the safety of nuclear technologies, the advantages and features of nuclear energy, and the training of future physicists were discussed.
